The Blackboard of Intolerance
Several people on social media don’t quite understand that what they write is an information blackboard for a diverse audience; people just like them who may—or may not—be interested in what they publish daily. Many don’t like it and simply move on. Others, within their full right, give their sincere opinion, in most cases with very good intentions. What is wrong with liking or disliking something? That is completely normal.
Talking About You, Not With You
What is deeply interesting is how some respond: “If you don’t like it, block me, don’t read me, and go somewhere else.” What they fail to understand is that one has the right to comment on what they expose publicly. As my daughter says: “I am talking about what you publish; I am not talking with you.”
The Value of Criticism
They should be grateful that someone reads their articles and offers an opinion. All that means is that the person who read it was interested in the topic and is contributing so it can be evaluated. That action should be taken as a compliment: someone dedicated their time, showed interest, and believes there is a different angle that doesn’t quite fit the argument presented.
Crossfire from Outsiders
Unfortunately, that is not the case. The common response is usually insults of any caliber. And it is curious that sometimes you comment on your own page about an article, and the original author either doesn’t answer or thanks you. That’s where the real catch comes in: third parties completely unrelated to the matter bombard you with criticism and insults, even when the person in question already accepted your message in good faith.
A People That Has Lost Its Way
Anyone who dares to speak out against Bad Bunny or the business run locally on our island by a lady—whose name, it must be said, goes against the dignity of women—should prepare themselves, because they are going to throw heavy artillery at them. We have lost our way as a people and we want to act hermetically, isolated from common sense. “I do whatever I want, and if you don’t like it, block me or go to h…ll.” That is what is heard daily.
A Tough Horizon
We are in bad shape, fellow countrymen. How are we going to get out of this hole of vulgarity and straighten out our country? With the massive success of the “Conejo Malo” (Bad Bunny), both inside and outside the island, it is “sucio difícil” (downright difficult). And with the aforementioned lady taking her products even into theaters, fairs, and public places, I don’t see how we can get out of this rut.
My Way and in Peace
Neither am I trying to be canonized or have you look at me as “San Tele,” the puritan who doesn’t accept “modern” words (as many call them to justify all these incongruities). I have lived my life intensely, I am from the neighborhood (de barrio), and back in my day, I even ran “de capota” (wild and fast) and all. But, as I have said on many occasions, I give my view as a responsible citizen because I do it my way and I avoid fruitless confrontations with strangers. I completely avoid comment wars on Facebook.
A Friend’s Advice
I read, write, socialize, enjoy my family, and my favorite hobby, Ham Radio. But, from time to time, please consider and respect my advice and that of others. Our only intention—at least I can assure you mine is—is to help.
Things are going wrong, my people, things are going wrong!
