You guys aren’t going to believe this!

What I witnessed today is from another galaxy. Not even you, who know me well, are going to give me the benefit of the doubt, but here it goes.

It turns out my friend Andreína Kolache invited us to her terrace for dinner and a chat. My neighbor, Saturnina Amolada, and I were there, enjoying the cool breeze and good conversation.

For those who don’t know her, Andreína has two Pekingese dogs that are tiny; they fit in the palm of your hand! But I noticed something very strange from the moment we arrived: our hostess had one of the little dogs literally glued to her right ear. She spent the whole evening like that, serving wine and passing hors d’oeuvres with the dog as if he were an accessory.

Finally, curiosity got the better of my manners, and I asked her: “Andreína, forgive me… but why are you carrying that little dog against your ear as if it were a cell phone?”

Andreína stopped smiling, put on a face of total resignation, and blurted out: “Oh, Popolín, you know I’ve been using a hearing aid for years because I can’t hear anything in my right ear. Well, it turns out that ‘Finn,’ in a moment of distraction, climbed onto the nightstand and swallowed my hearing aid!”

Silence fell, and she finished with all the naturalness in the world: “So here I am… if I press his little belly to my ear, I hear everything perfectly. He has incredible reception!”

I still can’t believe it. The things one does just to not miss out on the nightly gossip!
